Service Maintenance

Certification
Independent certification for organisations
maintaining fire protection systems.
The Service Maintenance & Repair (SMR)
Certi昀椀cation framework has been developed
to address a long standing gap in the 昀椀re
safety sector: verifying the competence of
organisations responsible for maintaining and
repairing Fire Protection systems.
With increased focus under the Building Safety
Act and the strengthened Fire Safety Order,
SMR provides independent assurance that
maintenance work is carried out by competent
people, using consistent and evidence based
processes.
Who Is It For?
SMR certi昀椀cation is suitable for maintenance
providers, smoke control specialists, FM teams
and organisations working in complex or high
risk buildings. It can also be applied alongside
most existing Installer Certi昀椀cation schemes,
supporting companies that deliver both
disciplines.

Introducing SMR01
SMR 01 has been developed in conjunction
with the Smoke Controls Association (SCA)
and certi昀椀es organisations delivering the
service, maintenance and repair of smoke
control systems - a critical life safety function.
The scheme assesses organisational capability,
engineer competence, on site performance
and documentation to provide clear, evidence
led assurance. SMR 01 helps shift the sector
from trust by assumption to trust by evidence,
supporting safer, more accountable building
operation.
